The Metropolitan Abundance Project (MAP) is a policy center dedicated to making cities more affordable, sustainable, and prosperous by advancing evidence-based policies on housing, transportation, and urban governance. MAP develops and shares model legislation, research-backed policy solutions, and communications tools to help local and state advocates succeed.

Position Overview
Reporting to the CEO of California YIMBY, the Managing Director will oversee MAP’s policy development, partnerships, and fundraising, and position MAP as a nationally recognized leader in abundance-oriented policymaking.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Write and execute MAP’s strategy to advance urban abundance policies nationwide.
- Develop high-impact, actionable policy solutions that address housing shortages, transportation inefficiencies, and governance challenges.
- Position MAP as a trusted, nonpartisan voice in national urban policy discussions.
- Supervise the (growing!) MAP team.
Policy Development & Thought Leadership
- Oversee the creation of model legislation, policy briefs, and communications toolkits for advocates and policymakers.
- Work with researchers and academic institutions to translate complex studies into accessible, workable policy solutions.
- Drive public education campaigns through op-eds, reports, podcasts, and blogs to shape the policy narrative around urban abundance.
Partnership & Coalition Building
- Build and maintain strong relationships with think tanks, advocacy groups, and policymakers across the political spectrum.
- Organize and participate in conferences, roundtables, and public discussions to promote MAP’s work.
Fundraising & Organizational Growth
- Lead fundraising efforts to ensure MAP’s long-term sustainability.
- Oversee MAP’s budget, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Recruit and manage a high-performing team of policy experts, researchers, fellows, and advocates.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
- A deep commitment to MAP’s mission of making cities more affordable, sustainable, and prosperous;
- Proven leadership experience in any domain, with experience managing teams and overseeing complex projects;
- Strong fundraising skills;
- Exceptional communication and public speaking abilities, with the ability to engage policymakers, funders, and the media;
- An analytical and strategic mind with an evidence-driven approach to policy making;
- Expertise in urban policy areas such as housing, transportation, climate resilience, or governance.
- A track record of working across political lines and building bipartisan coalitions.
There are no minimum educational requirements for this position.
Location and Compensation
- This position is remote, but candidates located in Washington, DC or New York will be given special consideration. Occasional travel is required.
- Compensation: $120,000+, depending on experience, with comprehensive benefits, including 4 weeks of paid vacation, sick leave, parental leave, health insurance, and retirement contributions.
