Brian Hanlon

After volunteering with grassroots housing advocacy organizations in San Francisco, Brian co-founded the California Housing Defense Fund (CalHDF) in 2015, which sues cities that violate state housing law. Brian then co-founded California YIMBY in 2017, which has passed over 2 dozen bills to accelerate homebuilding, shifted housing advocacy from the local to the state level across the country, and redefined the scale of the policy response necessary to end the housing shortage. Brian is a Ph.D. dropout.
