Co-Founder and CEO

Brian Hanlon

Brian Hanlon
Brian co-founded the Metropolitan Abundance Project in 2024 to bridge the gap between urban policy research and legislative action by developing model legislation that helps states and cities build more, move better, and govern smarter. As CEO, Brian shapes MAP’s vision and strategic direction, while MAP’s team drives the day-to-day work of turning ideas into real-world policy change.
After volunteering with grassroots housing advocacy organizations in San Francisco, Brian co-founded the California Housing Defense Fund (CalHDF) in 2015, which sues cities that violate state housing law. Brian then co-founded California YIMBY in 2017, which has passed over 2 dozen bills to accelerate homebuilding, shifted housing advocacy from the local to the state level across the country, and redefined the scale of the policy response necessary to end the housing shortage.
